Behind the Build: Creating a Table for 3 Generations of Family Meals
When Lara first came to us, she didn’t just want a new dining table.
She wanted to replace the table the one she grew up sitting at with her parents, the one that had seen holidays, hard conversations, and birthday candles blown out year after year.
But the original couldn’t be saved. It was splitting, sagging, and beyond repair.
So she asked us something we don’t take lightly:
“Can you build one that feels just as important as the one we lost?”
We didn’t just say yes.
We rolled up our sleeves and got to work.
The Vision: More Than a Table
Lara wanted a table big enough to host three generations of her family her kids, her parents, and everyone in between. But she also wanted it to feel warm, grounded, and familiar. Like it had always been there.
We started with what matters most: solid hardwood.
Something that could hold up to generations of elbows, spills, laughter, and life.
She chose oak for its strength, its story, and its natural ability to carry character over time.
The Details That Matter
Lara remembered how her childhood table had a subtle round over edge that never dug into your arms.
We replicated that by hand.
We added a trestle base that offered stability and leg room, since her dad now uses a mobility aid.
We custom-sized it to fit not just the room, but the rhythm of her family’s life making space for game nights, puzzles, and the occasional unexpected guest.
The Finish: Built to Be Lived On
We sealed the oak with a food-safe, satin-matte polyurethane soft to the touch but durable enough for the chaos of real life. Lara chose a natural stain to let the grain shine through, because, as she put it:
“I want it to age with us.”
Delivery Day: The Moment That Makes It Worth It
When we delivered the table, Lara's kids ran their hands along the grain.
Her mom stood silently for a moment before saying, “This feels like home again.”
Those are the moments we build for.
Because furniture isn’t just a piece. It’s a place.
A place where life keeps happening across years, across generations.
Why This Build Matters (And Why Yours Will Too)
We share stories like this not to show off but to show you what’s possible.
When you invest in true custom, you don’t just get dimensions.
You get meaning. You get function and feeling.
And maybe just maybe you get to give your kids the same memories you had growing up around the table.
