Client Story: This 8ft Walnut Table Became the Heart of Their Home
When Erin contacted us, she wasn’t just redecorating.
She was rebuilding.
Her family had just moved into their new home in South Edmonton a fresh chapter after years of apartment living. “We wanted something grounding,” she told us. “Not just a table. A place where we could come together again.”
That one sentence stuck with us.
Because that’s exactly what custom woodworking is meant to do create pieces that serve more than function. They hold space.
The Vision: Strong, Warm, and Built to Last
Erin knew she wanted walnut. She’d always been drawn to the deep richness of the grain. But it couldn’t just be beautiful it had to be strong enough for real life: kids, morning coffees, craft projects, messy pasta dinners, and yes homework chaos.
She also wanted something big enough to grow with her family.
We landed on an 8-foot design. Solid black walnut. Seamless edges. A soft matte finish that would let the grain do the talking.
The Build: No Shortcuts. No Templates.
We sourced premium Canadian walnut hand-selected, kiln-dried, and full of character. Erin visited the shop to choose her slab. “I want this to feel like ours,” she said.
We kept her involved at every step:
✔ Updates on sanding and finishing
✔ A video of the final polish
✔ A moment captured when her table was flipped and ready for delivery
The final piece was built with solid 2-inch walnut, reinforced joinery, and a custom finish that brings out its natural movement without overpowering the room.
The Delivery: From Workshop to Heart of the Home
We delivered Erin’s table in late summer. Sunlight poured through the dining room windows and spilled across the walnut like a quiet welcome.
“It fits better than I imagined,” she said, running her hand along the edge.
Within minutes, her kids had claimed their spots, and the family was gathered around like it had always been there.
The After: More Than a Table
Since then, Erin has sent us updates.
A Thanksgiving dinner spread across it.
A crayon doodle her youngest made now sanded out, but remembered.
A board game night that went past bedtime.
“This table is where we slow down. It’s where we remember we’re home.”
That’s what she told us last month. And it’s the reason we do what we do.
Why It Matters
A custom piece doesn’t just fit your room.
It fits your life.
It tells your story.
And if we do it right it becomes the heart of your home, too.
